I read a variety of the suggested posts and found them all interesting. It isn’t the kind of reading I would choose to do every day, but it was fun to see what the third graders wrote about the lost duck , and to know that we are all as good as on CNN every minute of the day is kind of humbling. For years we in art education have bemoaned the squelching of creativity in students, and we have also, I am afraid, participated in it with art lessons that require a particular outcome. The blog post about how to prevent another Da Vinci continues the discussion today, and I hope reaches some people who will do something about it. I intend to try.Reading blogs for silent reading I suppose instills the practice of reading, but isn’t content at all important? Brevity makes good sense to me. I remember an aesthetic from the 60’s: “Less is more.” I should stop now.

I wish everyone “bemoaned the squelching of creativity” and tried to do something about it — besides the inherent value of making art and engaging in meaningful expression, doesn’t all innovation rely on creativity? Cures for cancer and solutions for fuel shortages come from creative leaps as well as academic expertise, I think.
