Web 2.0 Thoughts

Web 2.0 encourages cooperative learning, it seems to me, and collaboration. This is how the real world operates, rather than the competitive model of learning that bogs us down and teaches us that we are not as good or not as smart (or smarter and better) over and over again. Our ability to offer and accept ideas will make us valuable as team members of every sort. I find that, in team art projects, listening to other ideas and compromising to the end that the project is unified is the most difficult thing for elementary students.

I like the idea that you included in your blog of Web 2.0 being a way to encourage cooperative learning. As I watch students voluntarily help other students, I am reminded that their minds are excellent resources for guiding others. They often seem to understand a fellow student’s confusion more easily that I do, and it seems to make them feel good to help someone else. The idea that we all have something valuable to contribute is very important, and as teachers I think we need to foster this idea whenever possible. I can see how you can relate this to group art projects as well as other group activities where a project would be the end result. Thank you for sending my thoughts in a new direction!
